Pollution is Killing Us

9,000,000. That’s the number of people killed in 2015 by pollution.

Beijing and New Delhi are cities famously suffering from overwhelming air pollution, but they didn’t even make the top-ten list for worst offenders. Instead, cities like Onitsha, Nigeria, and Zabol, Iran, have some of the most polluted air in the world. Air pollution doesn’t just stay in one place either; it travels. For example, twenty percent of the air pollution in China comes from manufacturing plants in the United States.

According to the World Health Organization, 80 percent of the world’s population live in areas that exceed their standards for healthy air quality. But air isn’t the only problem—water pollution brings disease and death to millions. And that's not always developing nations either. Flint, Michigan, has been in the news recently because of its poisoned water system. Research shows that increased levels of pollution are especially found in cities and countries with lower economic status.

Air and water are just two of the essential elements we need for life, yet now, polluted versions of them are the cause of death for millions.

In much the same way, we have been given truths in the Word of God to lead us to eternal life. How often are these truths infected by false ideas and spread as seeds of eternal death to millions of people?

Today, society is looking for solutions to clean up our air and water. But people are also searching for the pure truths found in God’s Word. Jesus said, “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). Jesus offered to give us the Water of Life without cost (John 4:14). We have the privilege of sharing this pure truth with the millions who have been drinking from contaminated sources.

Maybe you have family or friends who are confused by the counterfeit ideas that fill our world. We invite you to join us for Foundations of Faith beginning November 3—where Pastor Doug will take you back to the pure source of eternal life, God's Word. Click here to learn more!
