Unclean! Unclean! I’m unclean!
Chants the leper, his misery unseen.
Priest declared the leper’s flaw
Pronouncing isolation - the ritual law.
Oh the isolation he goes through
Away from friends and kindreds too.
Doomed to be with similarly afflicted
Lepers together were strictly restricted.
Everything he touched became unclean
Agony and shame made him scream
Polluting air by his own breath
Regarded it worse than his death.
Seeing Jesus healing the lame,
The blind, the paralytic and the maim.
The leper’s heart fills with happiness
As he saw the Healer’s tenderness.
The leper now knows whom to approach
Though the people on his way to reproach
Runs to Christ to find all he had hoped
Fell at His feet before he got groped.
Unclean! Unclean! I’m unclean!
Throughout the life this is my scream!
I am a leper to others it’s unseen
But through my sins my leprosy seen
I, like the leper, found the cleansing place
Fell at Jesus’ knees covering my sinful face
He is faithful to cleanse me from sin
And brought me far from where I’ve been.
If you are a leper and in need of a redeemer
Join me at His feet where you’ll be freer
There’s Grace for all men and women
We will sing together and say amen!
