Obscure "Business Leaders" Promote Abortion
As the inimitable Tucker Carlson says, without Roe v. Wade,
“women might understand that they have the right to be mothers rather than just dutiful worker bees toiling for for some company that doesn’t care about them. They might start to understand that they could put their families first, if they wanted, before the interests of shareholders. Can’t have that; might hurt markets. So our corporate taste-makers push the lie that abortion is liberation. Only in faraway, remote places like Alabama do people miss that message and continue to believe that children are more important than market caps and stock prices. But everywhere else their propaganda is working as intended. According to a new report by the CDC, America’s fertility rate is the lowest it has ever been in the history of the country. . . . Our leaders tell us, ‘that’s fine, it’s totally okay, its normal, you don’t need children, here’s a new iphone, we’ll pay for your abortion, work harder, stop complaining, don’t listen to those people in Alabama, we will make them be quiet, get back to work, you’re liberated now. ‘“
Abortion: Time For A GC 2020 Vote? 
Does the Bible support abortion? (see Exodus 20:13, Psalms 139:13-16, Isaiah 49:1, Exodus 21:22-25, Jeremiah 1:5, Luke 1:41, Proverbs 6:16-19, Ecclesiastes 11:5, Psalms 22:10, Psalms 106:38-39).
Also, note that Jesus is described in John 1:9 as “... the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.” Interestingly, science has shown that “zinc sparks” are emitted at the time of conception while observed under fluorescence microscopy.
If the Bible does not support abortion then what do we, the remnant who keep the Commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, do?
Why have our hospitals supported this practice? Are they still supporting this practice at any of our hospitals? Or, are they still supporting it via affiliated community health care clinics and similar organizations? Does this give them a fraudulent shield to hide behind when stating that their healthcare institution does not provide abortions? Why have requests for answers on this issue been ignored by our leadership? Does our stance dampen our witness and keep honest-hearted Christians from other denominations in Babylon instead of coming out of it? I believe it has.
A summary of how this compromise crept into our church is described in our denomination’s Ministry magazine. Please note the role that Neal Wilson played in this affair. Neal was the father of our current president, Ted Wilson. Might this have something to do with the lack of response from our leaders? I don't know, perhaps so.
I have tried obtaining responses on this issue in the past from General Conference officials. During Jan Paulsen’s tenure I received responses from some officials. The responses were few and far between and mainly negative, but at least there was some response. During our current President's tenure I have received none. It was frustrating. I gave up my pursuit of righting our institutional wrong. I felt like I was a victim of “bait and switch.”
Nobody explained our stance on abortion to me when I joined the church in 1995. I trusted what I was told -- we keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus. Later on, I stumbled upon our dirty, little secret hidden from new converts and not mentioned in evangelistic meetings. I supposed that this was just the way the Church was and there was nothing I could do to change it. I was tempted to leave the church. But where to go?
After extensive Bible study and perusal of Ellen White’s writings, one is left with nowhere to turn. Surely, no other denomination on the face of the earth has had as much light as the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Therefore, I remain: a thorn in the side of those who are satisfied with the status quo. I will not leave and I will not be quiet. Nearly every pastor I have spoken with regarding this subject has either remained quiet, tried to change the subject or walked away without explanation. One, to his credit, engaged in a constructive dialogue. So here we stand brothers and sisters; facing two options:
- Awaiting the Lord’s shaking out of those “healthcare” institutions, ministers and laity who covertly or overtly support this nefarious practice
OR
- The beginning of a determined step by laity, constituent delegates and church leadership to address this situation head on.
Is it possible that the loud cry of the third angel’s message -- Christ our Righteousness -- can emanate from a church in corporate disobedience? Have we laid a stumbling stone in the Adventist church and our healthcare system that prevents others from hearing the most precious message we offer? Will the Lord give the Holy Spirit to those who disobey Him?
In the Internet age, our dirty little secret is no longer a secret. Secular newspapers have proclaimed our stance and members, such as Prolife Andrew, have challenged leadership on Youtube. By sighing and crying for this abomination done in the church are we the troublers of Israel?
Let me be clear, brethren, the goal is to discuss the abortion issue and have it voted on in 2020 by the General Conference in world session. If we go down the road of appointing a Theology on the Study of Abortion committee then so be it. However, I hope and pray that, in contrast, we move decisively and swiftly.
Leaders: Let's settle this in a timely manner or kick the can down the road as far as you want but at least do something to engage the world church. Ellen White decried “kingly power” (Ms. 43, 1901, par. 4) and also stated, “God has ordained that the representatives of His church from all parts of the earth, when assembled in a General Conference, shall have authority” (Testimonies to the Church, Volume 9, page 261).
This issue has not been addressed in world session. Rather, it was settled by “kingly power.” Where do our leaders stand on this issue?
The Illinois Conference
The Illinois Conference constituency meeting is slated for October 2018. Personally, I want to know where each and every organizing/nominating/executive committee member, conference officer, departmental director, pastor and school principal (hereinafter referred to as Leadership) stand on this issue. I also want to know where our Union, Division and General Conference Leadership stand. Most importantly, I want to know where our General Conference Executive Committee members stand.
Locally, where do your church constituent delegates stand? Ask them before you select them.
When does your local conference begin the process of selecting their organizing and nominating committees for its upcoming constituency meeting? What about your Unions and Divisions?
Three Questions
If we want a change in our church for the better, then we need to press for it. The status quo is not acceptable. Respectfully demand that your Leadership (all of those mentioned above) answer three simple survey questions. The questions are as follows:
- Does the Bible support abortion? Yes or No
- Should our church vote on this issue during General Conference Session in 2020? Yes or No
- Will you do all within your power to bring this issue up for discussion in the upcoming 2018 and 2019 Annual Council sessions? Yes or No

I am using MailChimp and SurveyMonkey to question Leadership within the Illinois Conference, Lake Union, North American Division and General Conference. Their responses are due by June 1, 2018. Responses (or a lack thereof) will be posted at a future date.
Please check back before important votes are taken to elect members of organizing/nominating/executive committees and, most importantly, officers and departmental directors at your conference, union, division and general conference level. Share and disseminate this information far & wide with other lay members and constituent delegates. It is particularly critical to share this information prior to Constituency Meetings.
I expect some, perhaps even a majority of our Leadership, will avoid responding to this simple Three Question Survey. If they do then remember this Ellen White quote:

When Constituency Meeting time rolls around verify if Leadership is working to bring this up for a GC 2020 vote. If not, then consider replacing your elected leaders with others who will push for a 2020 vote -- otherwise, we may be stuck with many who manifest "indifference and neutrality in a religious crisis. . . ".

Bob Hart resides in central Illinois and is a member of the Berean SDA Company. The church board selected him as their constituent delegate in 2014 and again in 2018. He informed the Illinois Conference that he was the selected delegate. He also informed the conference of his intent to seek responses from Leadership on the abortion issue. Thereafter, Illinois Conference administration notified him that “...only those with a "church" status send delegates.“ He reminded them that the “company” sent him as a delegate in 2014. Subsequently, they informed him that the Executive Committee selected a Berean SDA Company’s constituent delegate for 2018 -- and it wasn’t him.
MY CONFESSION: "I admit that I had a bad attitude at the 2014 meeting (stemming from bewilderment at the recent union of Adventist Midwest Health and Roman Catholic healthcare systems). Less than a day later, the Lord chastised me. I apologized to those offended and asked/received forgiveness. I am left to wonder if my 2014 behavior, the abortion issue or something else is the reason why the conference is sidelining me from the 2018 meeting."
